Phosh.mobi @ FrOSCon 2026

FrOSCon is an annual, two-day conference covering Free Software and Open Source topics, held at the Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg in Sankt Augustin. It has multiple talk tracks as well as a booth area where different projects can present themselves. In contrast to previous years we didn’t have a dev room with talks but instead had a booth to present Phosh and our association’s activities.

We brought the same set of devices we had at CLT26 but the functionality had improved considerably since then, with more devices having working cameras and reliable phone calls. Can you spot Phoshi, the little tiger? It was their first time at the booth too.

Since Android app support came up in prior events we were prepared this time and demoed an Android container using Waydroid. We had the F-Droid app store installed so people could install their favorite Open Source Android app and see it integrate almost seamlessly into Phosh.

When we set up the devices prior to the event, we didn’t know that our booth would be right next to the F-Droid booth — what a coincidence! Our friends from postmarketOS were on the other side.

Another topic that came up at prior events was safe upgrades, so we brought a device running our immutable BengalOS distribution, demonstrating reliable A/B upgrades.

We were happy to see all the interest in alternatives to the current mobile duopoly, thanks for stopping by. This gives us a lot of motivation to continue what we do.

Thanks to all who supported our work through a donation at the booth or via the online form.

We hope to see you next year at FrOSCon 2027!
