Phosh Hackspace Meetup Bonn 2026 Report

Having had our third meetup in the Datenburg hackspace in Bonn, it’s time to report and share our experiences.

As announced this meeting was rather informal without many items on the “official” agenda. Of course this does not mean we didn’t get things done!

Throughout the event we were usually around 8 people: We had participants from Czechia and different areas in Germany. The space would allow for a few more people, maybe you’d like to swing by next time!

What happened?

You’d expect that a lot of the time was spent hacking and playing around with devices and you’d be correct.

The soldering station saw some action

While we also did a fair bit of socialising, drinking coffee and eating snacks you’re likely more interested in work done, the following provides a non-exhaustive list:

  • Phone CI:
  • BengalOS:
  • gnome-calls: DTMF support in SIP (receiving DTMF works, the sending pipeline doesn’t)
  • Release “Chess Clock” v0.6.3 and publish on Flathub (targeting GNOME 51 runtime)
  • Phone Mainlining 101: Fairphone3 fuel gauge driver work
  • Flashing all sorts of things: Fairphone 3, PinePhone Pro and many more
  • Mainlining u-boot menu integration for easy booting and flashing of our phones. This will e.g. also allow to flash individual BengalOS partitions without overwriting your data
  • USB-C receptacles of various phones were cleaned from years worth of dust from carrying them around
  • phoc: Work on virtual output APIs
  • Code reviews in phosh, gmobile, phosh-first-boot and other projects

A Pixel 3a to be used for Continuous Integration

Lightning talks

Three lightning talks took place on Saturday evening.

Final notes

The association is glad to have been able to support the participants of this event through funding for food and accommodation. This would not be possible without the generous contributions of our donors, thank you!

If you like what we’re doing and want to support us, consider leaving a donation.

What else is there to say? Thanks of course:

Thanks to the Datenburg for hosting us once more, the organizers for making it happen (and providing snacks and coffee 😋) and everyone who came by. We hope to see you next time!
