Experiences from LinuxDay Dornbirn 2025

As you may know from our previous post, we were present at GNU/LinuxDay Vorarlberg.

While Phosh.mobi is already several years old and mature and we’ve talked about it before at conferences this was our first ever official booth representing the project as official nonprofit organization so reason enough to share our experiences:

At 09:00 the event opened to the public and with one hour to go before the first talks most visitors started roaming, lots of them stopping by to chat and play with our OnePlus6, Librem5, x86 Tablet and Fairphone 5 demo devices. All demo devices were running the Trixie prerelease of Mobian.

Starting at 11:00 and 12:00 there were two presentations in German language about Linux mobile. Evangelos presented about his experiences Living 5 years with mobile Linux followed by Daniel Kulesz about Mainline Linux on a smartphone - even today a good choice for end users?. The talks have been recorded and should become available soon.

We are very happy that there was great interest in our booth as evidenced by a constant stream of people until the the event closed at 18:00. No rest for the wicked! 😜

One of the questions that we were asked the most was which device to use to which we showed the feature matrix and we explained were the shortcomings are and where improvements are on the horizon.

It was also pretty fun to see the excitement of people realizing that apt was available and only several minutes later they had installed Doom and were playing it with a Bluetooth connected keyboard.

Finally, we want to thank the organisation team from the LUGV for making this event happen and the countless visitors at our booth and at the Linux mobile related talks for their interest.

We hope to see you again next year in Dornbirn or at a different conference near you!
