Notes from our community meeting. Topics have been slightly reordered for readability. We touched on fewer technical topics this time, with more discussion around usability, stability, and reception
Past Events
Datenspuren
- Björn talked about Datenspuren 2026 and the talk on mainlining there (in German)
- We were at MiniDC in Winterthur
General take away is that even within the Linux communities many people don’t know about Phosh and Linux on Mobile phones and that feedback is generally very positive when people get the chance to try a device.
Upcoming Conferences
Upcoming conferences we’ll attend or present on:
Upcoming Meetups
The next Phosh Meetup Datenburg in October: 9-11. October 2026
In Other News
- We have a Nextcloud instance for Demos at conferences etc.
Stable User Experience
Discussion around stability from the user’s perspective, are our stable distributions (e.g. postmarketOS and Mobian) stable enough. What happens when e.g. flatpak runtime updates break the user experience (as happens with GTK4.24). Can we sensibly inject bug fixes?
LLMs being used for device bringup
Lots and lots of duplication through people LLMing stuff. Check at least #ai-mainline:ixit.cz first. David explains how he reused parts of someone elses Google Pixel 3 bring-up.
What can help visibility?
Besides our favorite GotoSocial / PeerTube platforms in the fediverse, liking and commenting on the proprietary platforms (e.g. on youtube) to feed their algorithm can help to reach more people. Please help us with that!
Daily driver phones
Always a hot topic
- Google Pixel 3a is fine but getting slow
- Oneplus 6 is currently the most recommend
- Fairphone 5 is mostly good already but still needs patches (call audio, etc.)
SHIFT6mq
USB-C DisplayPort support out of the box would be nice.
